Castle Leazes
Proposals for a new 70,000 stadium at Castle Leazes just a few minutes walk from St. James, in 1997. St. James' itself was to be turned into a multi-purpose indoor arena. The scheme had huge support from Newcastle fans and the City Council, but the club eventually dropped the scheme and decided to expand St. James' instead.
