Hardly breaking news, but it would seem that Kevin Keegan reached his own conclusions regarding the future of Stephen Carr, and ultimately agreed with our own conclusion to the most recent edition of this series that the Irishman should be released without further ado. Ramage and Troisi were also released, and Newcastle-Online wish the pair all the best. Moving on, we turn our attentions to Jose Enrique.

By James Collins On Fri 25 Apr 2008 | (Have Your Say: 18 Comments)
Following on from last week’s analysis of Shay Given, it is clear from all the comments that there is a large difference of opinion regarding his future role at the club. Newcastle-Online now moves from one Irishman to another, as we now turn our attentions to right back Stephen Carr and see whether fan opinion is just as divided.

As another marathon of a season nears its end, it is time to look at the Newcastle United squad and identify just who we should look to keep for next season. However, the past nine months have been something of a disappointment and it must therefore be necessary to cut some of the chaff from the squad if we are to progress. In this new serial, Newcastle-Online shall assess each player individually, and answer the question: Should they stay, or should they go? Proceeding in numerical order, we first turn our attentions towards Irish stopper Shay Given . (more…)
The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation - Please Donate
By James Collins On Tue 25 Mar 2008 | Comments Off
Newcastle legend Sir Bobby Robson has launched a new charitable foundation. Robson is aiming to raise £500,000 for the new charity, and the money shall fund the Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Trial and Research Centre, being built at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital.
Cancer can be treated most effectively if it is detected in it’s early stages, and the centre will focus on early diagnosis and treatment, and will also feature clinical trials for new drugs.
Sir Bobby is currently undergoing chemotherapy for lung cancer - the fifth time he has had cancer in his lifetime. Regardless, he continues to work for the benefit of the North East public.
The team at Newcastle-Online would like to offer Sir Bobby our best wishes, and we would be grateful if you could offer your support to Sir Bobby Robson and all other cancer patients by donating Here.
Many thanks for your continued support.
Keegan Returns
By James Collins On Wed 16 Jan 2008 | (Have Your Say: 15 Comments)
Newcastle United have confirmed that Kevin Keegan has been appointed our new manager. He replaces Sam Allardyce, who was sacked last Wednesday.
The 56-year-old formerly managed Fulham, England and Manchester City, but is best remembered for the five years he spent at St. James’ Park between 1992 and 1997, during which Newcastle United were known as the Entertainers, and challenged Manchester United for the Premier League title.
Is this the return of the old Newcastle, or should you never go back? Have your say.

With the new season starting to take shape, and the current transfer window nearing its close, it is becoming clearer as to what areas of the Newcastle United team need strengthening, and also what players at other clubs are realistically available to us. With that in mind, which Tottenham Hotspur players would be worthwhile targets?

Mackems. Can’t live with them, can’t live without them. But in a playing perspective, could it be worthwhile to make a Mackem player live even closer? Furthermore, would such a player really be welcome at Newcastle United?
Buying From Our Premiership Rivals 2007: Middlesbrough
By James Collins On Wed 8 Aug 2007 | (Have Your Say: 13 Comments)
According to Gareth Southgate, the fact that new Newcastle striker Alan Smith spoke to him is an ‘achievement.’ The fact that this was said merely a few months after signing Jonathan Woodgate suggests that over recent months, Middlesbrough have fallen behind other clubs in the transfer market.
Buying From Our Premiership Rivals 2007: Manchester City
By James Collins On Fri 3 Aug 2007 | (Have Your Say: 13 Comments)
Like Newcastle, the Manchester City that begins this season will be a very different team to the miserable excuse of a team that finished last season. Fans from both teams can look forward to a brighter season with new owners, new managers and new players. But does all the upheaval create an opportunity for Newcastle to sign any players from Manchester City?
Alan Oliver: Wide of the Mark - No. 2 & No. 3
By James Collins On Wed 1 Aug 2007 | (Have Your Say: 28 Comments)
It would seem that journalistic legend Alan Oliver has been on holiday recently. Thus in recent weeks, Newcastle-Online has been unable to obtain any real clues to bring it closer to solving the mysterious Chronicle Code. So just where has Oliver been?
Buying From Our Premiership Rivals 2007: Everton
By James Collins On Mon 16 Jul 2007 | (Have Your Say: 14 Comments)
In recent years, Everton have very much been a yo-yo club within the Premier League. One season they’ll be facing the drop, the next, they’ll be challenging for a European position. Their form over recent years belies the fact that the Goodison Park club have half a good team. But is it a team half empty, or a team half full of talent?
Buying From Our Premiership Rivals 2007: Bolton Wanderers
By James Collins On Thu 5 Jul 2007 | (Have Your Say: 64 Comments)
Newcastle United have probably made their most important signing of the summer from Bolton Wanderers in the form of manager Sam Allardyce. Inevitably, the Magpies have been linked with a plethora of the Trotters’ players since then, and Allardyce has even made moves to sign players and staff from the club he knows best.
Alan Oliver: Wide of the Mark - No. 1
By James Collins On Wed 4 Jul 2007 | (Have Your Say: 19 Comments)
In the first of a new feature, Newcastle-Online will be taking a look at the work of legendary local journalist Alan Oliver, keeping an eye on those little inconsistencies that pop up within his literary works. Are these inconsistencies clues that foretell the rebirth of Kevin Keegan and the end of the world? Or are they something far more sinister?
Buying From Our Premiership Rivals 2007: Blackburn Rovers
By James Collins On Mon 2 Jul 2007 | (Have Your Say: 62 Comments)
Having failed to sell out their stadium in the majority of matches, it must make some people wonder how Blackburn generally have a half-decent side every season. Decent management from Mark Hughes must be one factor, while the legacy left to them by Sir Jack Walker must not be forgotten about. However, it cannot be ignored that to keep a good side together, they must look to sell their better players at a profit in order to fund new players. Thus, it is well worth looking at Blackburn Rovers to see if any of their current personnel would improve our first team squad.
