Hang Your Heads In Shame

16th May 2005

Each and everyone of the following, in some form or another, ought to be ashamed this morning for their part (or lack of) in Newcastle's most disappointing season for many a year:

Celesitine Babayaro

Since arriving from Chelsea, he's actually performed OK at left-back but tales of night's out on the Toon while supposedly recovering from injury and a distinct lack of eagerness to don the Black & White shirt tells you he's not really interested.

Kieron Dyer

A typical season for Dyer then. Starts it with lots of promises claiming he's a reformed man, then does something to irk Toon fans even more, apologises, claims that there will be no more trouble from him, plays well, gets injured, plays well, gets injured, hits the front page headlines again, apologises, claims he's a reformed man, gets injured, blah blah blah. Same old same old. The only difference is he actually put away a few chances that came his way.

Nicky Butt

This should have been the season in which the Bowyer of old (Leeds form) came out to play but he's missed too many games through suspension and if ever we needed proof that he's a liability, he goes and thumps Dyer in front of 52,000 people and millions watching on the box to commit one of the ugliest and most shameful episodes in our history. Some feat given the shame others before him have heaped on the badge and good name of Newcastle United.

Jermaine Jenas

While I rate him and understand the circumstances that have contributed to his poor form, that is still no excuse for 18 months of to be frank, wretched performances from the 'England' man. Awful season from someone who is so much better and can do so much better. Massively disappointed.

Laurent Robert

I have no sympathies with the Frenchman for the harsh treatment he's received from Souness at times. He gets fantastically paid and is a senior pro - he should show more balls and be more of a man instead of going in a huff, sulking to the media and blaming everyone and everything but himself. Lazy, unproductive 80% of the time and soon to be on his way. Thanks for the wonder goals but overall, just another player to have played for the Toon. Au revoir!

Nicky Butt

He started the season so well and is the type of player we needed but then it all went wrong for him. He suddenly gave up and stopped caring, putting in shocking performances and showing a complete lack of heart and when we needed him most he showed where his true allegiances lie. Manchester that way Nicky -->

Craig Bellamy

Great player, but a complete idiot. Started the season on fire and had become our best player. Had he kept that big gob shut, not been so selfish and disrespectful of his manager, Chairman, team-mates and fans alike, he'd be here now. Only himself to blame. We missed his pace, running, work ethic and goal threat but he'll soon be forgotten, again, just another player to have wore the shirt (and ballsed it up).

Patrick Kluivert

We all had high hopes for the Dutchman and while we all had concerns too, a player of Kluivert's ability would surely set the League alight? Not so. Unfit, lacks interest, heart and unavailable for the majority of time. Waste of space.

Shola Ameobi

You've had your chance Shola, now kindly sling your hook. Likes bigging himself up in the local press doesn't he? Shame he can't do the things he says he will and can and he never will. Awful season, awful 'footballer'.

Graeme Souness

Talks a good game and big on words but so far, he's doing nothing to convince anyone that he is capable of turning things around. In fact, it's the opposite. He's a poor manager and should never been appointed in the first place. However we are stuck with him and like a mug, I'll support him. Needs to start playing the right system and playing players in their correct position. Needs to stop blaming everything and everyone and take some of the responsibility. Also needs to start winning matches, and badly. Time will tell. That rope Graeme has your name on it.

Freddy Shepherd

An incompetent oaf who's an embarrassment to the club, the City and fans alike. Needs to shut his gob, take a couple of steps back, and let the manager run the team.

The coaching/medical staff, no need to explain.

And a special mention to Alan Oliver or as he is known as amongst Toon fans, Anal Oliver. The drivel this man writes is beyond a joke. How the hell he gets paid for writing the crap he does, I don't know. If anything, he's good to laugh at...
