Shay

A clean sheet in two successive games for Shay, and he never
really looked liked conceding to be honest with you. Had relatively
little or nothing to do from a Palace team content to take a
point. |

Stephen
Carr
His work rate is commendable. His no nonsense approach is a
valuable asset for the Newcastle backline. Good display back
in his favoured right-back position. |

Jean-Alain
Boumsong
Back to his commanding self and posed Palace a lot of problems
from set pieces. Had Johnson in his pocket all day and was never
really called upon to be a world-beater. Did his job efficiently
and this bodes well for the next campaign. |

Steven
Taylor
Glad to see this lad back in the side. He is the future for
us and today he showed why with a good, solid performance at
the heart of the Toon back line. Although he wasn't really tested
he looked very assured and is coming into his own. Surely the
future Captain of Newcastle United? |

Robbie
Elliott
Elliott swept up well and made a few vital interceptions. His
distribution was a bit hit and miss in this game but he did
set Milner on his way a few times down the left with a few searching
long balls. Subbed at half time for Ramage. |

James
Milner
Another really decent performance from James. A thorn in Palace's
side and they did well to deal with him. He has come into his
own these last two games and must now keep up this good form
and take it into next season. Good display . My man
of the match! |

Darren
Ambrose
Much like his performance mid-week against Boro he never got
into the game and a shadow of his performance at Old Trafford
last Sunday. Away from home he seems to do well but he needs
to start doing it at home if he wants to be a big player for
us. |

Amdy
Faye
Intriguing player this one. Not too sure what to make of him.
He showed little today to assure fans that he is the long-term
future of the centre-midfield. Never really in the game, though
he does cover a fair bit of ground. |

Charles
N'Zogbia
Gets better with every game. A real live wire in the Toon midfield.
Looks a very balanced and canny player. Could be a big player
for us in the years to come and going off today's performance
he could become a big player for us as soon as next season. |

Shola
Ameobi
Well… the lad can try I guess. Started today's game and looks
like he is really lacking confidence. I overheard a man on the
metro going to the game saying he (Shola) was due a goal. Well
maybe that's what it is; hope so for your sake Shola. |

Alan
Shearer
Felt sorry for Alan today. Perhaps could have got on the scoresheet
on a few occasions but otherwise a quiet game by his standards.
Another who needs a goal but at least with Al you can be fairly
sure he will bang one in by end of season. |

Substitutes:
Peter
Ramage
Came on at half-time and had one of the easiest games of his
short career so far. Learning from every game and still a bairn,
one to keep a close eye on in the future though. |

Laurent
Robert
Not interested. Possibly his penultimate St. James' Park appearance? |
3 |
Patrick
Kluivert
Had a goal disallowed for offside and went close on another
chance. Still nowhere near the player we expected when he signed
last year. |

The Boss Man:
Graeme
Souness
Another 0-0 home draw and still he cannot get us to the 10 games
won margin. Poor again today, although the first twenty-minutes
of the first half we played better than the whole 90 against
Boro. Unlucky with injuries and deployed a 4-3-3 formation today
that looked like it was going to work but credit to Palace who
pinched a much treasured point. And so we keep going… |
