It's a shame this 'buying from' series hasn't taken off like it has the last couple of years. Very enjoyable/informative read.

Ah well, come on the Toon.

Excellent and realistic striker to go for - Fernando Cavenaghi.

Broke into the River Plate team in his teens, and scored 71 goals in 121 appearances, and made his Argentina debut at 20. Looked to be Argentina's next big thing at this point.

Linked with most of Europe's big clubs, but made a suprise move to Spartak Moscow in 2004 where he struggled with the climate and language, hitting 13 goals in 53 appearances.

Moved to Bordeaux in January 2007, and has gradually got back his confidence and scoring touch, scoring 24 times in 44 games including a recent 10 goals in 9 games streak as Bordeaux finished 2nd to perma-champs Lyon.

His recent form has seen him back in the Argentina squad.

All this and he's still only 24. Worth a gamble, surely????

I'm fairly sure it was in the Times.... But from what I've heard since he'd have probably gone there even if we had offered more money. I guess he fancied the climate and a less challenging league.

I still choose to remain panicy and worried about next season. If we suddenly assemble a squad in the next four weeks I'll admit I was wrong to worry and jump to conclusions...! Hopefully we will. But I still worry about our prospects.

So where did you see that they offered a better financial package than us if it wasn't the tabloids?

Ghost of Baggio writes in saying:

What the hell is going on at SJP?!?!?!?!?!?

—————–

I was hoping you could tell us from all of the conclusions you’ve been jumping to from reading the Daily Mirror and the Sun.

------------------------------------------

Billionaires don't become billionaires by spending money.

And Aimar has signed at Benfica for 29K a week.... After they offered him a better financial package.

So when we can't even beat 29K a week for one of the best attacking midfielders on the planet... The tell me what is going on at SJP.

I don't beleive the tabloids. I beleive what I see and hear. And I beleive we're f***ed.

Very good article. I like your ambition tipping Hunterlaar. His signature together with Moutinho, Veloso, Metzelder and Rat would just about cover it (if we're getting carried away).

Best add a Goalie to that list as Krul (according to the Dutch media) is off to Herenveen.
