Did any of you actually watch the game?? A Newcastle win would have been a travesty - fantastic individual goals notwithstanding. Shame about the racist abuse though.
Anyway, for those of you who didn't bother to watch this "non-event". Here's an independent assesment:-

My early season optimism is gone.

We were quite bad and couldn't hold a lead TWICE against a team that look like relegation battlers.

Although I envy Boro in one respect. I've seen Boro shirts everywhere today. It must be great to get such pleasure from luckily avoiding defeat against your bigger neighbours. If only we got such pleasure from what we would class as a good result from this fixture. And 2-2 ain't a good result from this fixture for us!

Arca scores to get a point and voila! Open top bus parade scheduled for next week.

Don't know what game you watched Paul but both of the Toon's goals were goal of the month quality, perhaps you were too busy watching Mido make a tit of himself to notice them?

You geordies will be lucky to be top 10 this season after that performance. You couldn't get the ball and scored two lucky goals. If we can perform like that with a half fit Young, Woodgate and Mido and get Pogatetz and Huth back we will be a team to watch this year. Up the boro

I think the ability we have could crush Boro, but we need to make the opportunities happen for our expensive front men, something that was not happening when we entertained Villa, though our defence does look confident with new additions, so Boro won't have a good time at our end with their only effective forward men gone, 1 of which will be hitting balls at them today, but regardless prediction goes 2-0 toon win.

Well put Mikey,

I fear that the injuries to the Boro defense, and whether they can hold off the geordie front pairing will be the deciding factor.

Great article!

But to answer the question, Middlesbrough are the team that:-

Took 4 points off Newcastle last season.

Finished above Newcastle last season.

So a little respect and don't chalk up 3 points just yet! :-)

However injuries means it's a Boro reserve defence on show and the quality of Newcastle's strike force could be too much.

Woodgate is their one player if he could stay fit that I would want in the Newcastle squad and that says it all about Middlesbrough basically.

Woodgate and Mido aren't fit, from what I hear.

Downing is also criminally over rated. He has a left foot.. wow!

Regular in the England side? Regular at getting call ups under McClaren more like, who was his boss at Boro.
