Ourselves and Sunderland are both aiming for different things this season. Survival and Europe, respectively.

So you're aiming for survival and Sunderland for Europe, then?

We are all envious of Sunderland, well perhaps I am because we lack so much flair and creativity. I would take Edwards, Gordon, Whithead, Halford, McShane, Etuhu looks half decent

Look we have no creativity- midfield of Smith, Butt and Geremi, striking options in Owen, Martins and Viduka. Except from Martins we are very slow as well. Sunderland have Edwards, Richardson, Etuhu, Hysen, Wallace and Chopra and Halford all have pace. Owen has lost his pace- no one can argue with that

I think we are really over hyping ourselves and Sunderland could well become the best team in the North East.

P.S- Another £9.99 a month wasted just for tomorrow

sunderland arent a threat to nufc, chopra will bag 15goals max this year but who else do they have up front, etuhu looks half decent as does mcshane and the goalie but others will struggle to make an impact. mackems will struggle this year and although RK wont say it he'll be delighted to just survive

Well I think ye're kidding yereselves if ye think that Sunderland are just aiming to survive, this is Roy Keane we're talking about. He was one of the only people who thought that we could win the WC in 2002, and who knows maybe if he'd been there we might of.

I doubt Sunderland will go down. I think they'll finish alot higher then people think. Keane's brought his determination and such with him to Sunderland and you can see it in nearly every match they've played, this fightning spirit they have, they never give up, like how many time have they scored winners or equalisers in the last mins of the game. It's not just a coincidence that it keeps happening and if you're not willing to fight for that extra inch every time to the last whistle, he wont play you, he has no time for half hearted players or premadonnas, just players that always give 110%. Ye mightn't think that there's many great players in Sunderland but Keane just doing buy anyone. He buys them because he see's something in them, because he think they're good and he's hard to impress. Now he's said there's something special about McShane, he said that McShane is the type of players he wanted on Wearside..An ideal professional.

Paul McShane is a player for the future, he's going to have a massive career in front of him if he keeps going the way he is. He's been amazing for both Sunderland and Ireland. They say he's too small to make an impact, funny how they said that about Keane. McShane is a leader and is doing outstanding especially considering he's so young. He's deffinatley a player to watch.

mcshane? better than who? chopra better than martins? hmmm think you are getting a bit ahead of yourself? i think so. dont get me wrong i hope they stay up but i dont think that they will set anything on fire, just middlehopers, thats all. i believe newcastle wont do a huge deal better though this year, we have got to give BS time to get his team and let it gel. look at what he did at bolton, he will do that at newcastle but on much a bigger scale. cant wait april 19....

PS - Sorry. I was being harsh in my Sunderlander criticism then. I'd like to stress I don't think *all* Makems are socially maladjusted.

I know one and he's quite a bright guy, and a good fella to boot!

I will try and sound as respectful to our rivals as I can:

Ourselves and Sunderland are both aiming for different things this season. Survival and Europe, respectively.
Royston appears to have built a squad that can battle its way to survival, and I think they will stay up.

Basically, Sunderland's squad is built for a different purpose to ours therefore won't improve what we have and any acquisitions from them will only serve to add numbers.

Therefore my opinion matches the articles conclusion and is a bit pointless.

Sunderland will actually prove a challenge in the derby match's this year and sadly won't be the hilarious push overs of years gone by. At least Boro will fill that role this season, which is a mild consolation.

I look forward to the few Sunderland fans that can use a computer coming on this site and ignoring sensible debate for their usual expression of small minded jealousy and hatred - "Me Sunderland. Me see Geordie. Me hate Geordie. Ug! Ug! Not listen Geordie! Make threaten Geordie! Me big man! Ug!". I believe that's their usual standard of intellectual capacity?

I was doing so well until the last paragraph! Damn! Touch paper lit!

Mmmm, hold on a minute guys, RK quite righly hasnt been seen to be standing by the players who got them up, and rightly so, Championship players is all they were.

For the first time in years Sunderland now have an uncompromising manager and other teams need to be wary of this, Liverpool may well feel the backlash.

Mcshane looks the type player newcastle have needed for years, at a snip of the price.
Dont underestimate Carlos Edwards, he can be such a match changing player, dark horse.
Dickson Etuhu is a real enigma, along the lines of Patrick Viera, a real unknown quantity but the signs are he could be pivotol in Sunderlands campaign, Michael Chopra never got the chance he deserved, whether it was under Robson, Souness or Roeder, there's more to the lad than he's given credit for.
Those four are as good as or better than some at Newcastle at present, Im not being biased just cos' Im a mackem, I think your team is as strong as it has been for many a year and I think you'll do well(sadly).

April 19th could be very interesting!!!!

I'm confused, I was expecting several pages of the continuous repetition of the letters 'h' and 'a' followed by a space.

The resounding answer is that no current players are fit for Newcastle from your blurb (Shay was on-loan from Blackburn and never a true Mackem if I remember right). Could we not have had this post just prior to the Mackem game just to needle them? I'd rather buy their best player in the Jan window and stick him in the reserves and hope its enough to take them down. That and a little visit by Shearer to RK residence. By the way Shearer was drinking with me whichever night it happens.
