If Newcastle is such a ‘football hotbed’ how come they can’t produce England internationals like Middlesbrough which is a quarter of the size of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne.
Woodgate and Downing are England regulars and the Middlesbrough squad is full of young local talent.
Didn’t Sir john Hall want a team of 11 Geordies at Newcastle United?
He knew this was never going to happen and soon flew the nest.

mmm.. yeah as opposed to middlesbrough who are drowning in acalades..jesus, talk about the pot caling the kettle black. Don’t get me wrong, i like woodgate, i think he isn’t a bad player but he’s nowhere near in full fitness- he’s injured now isn’t he? let’s move on shall we…

wait one jolly second here you spent 7 mil on an ‘international’ defender, forgive me and my memory but hes harldy international; coming off the subs bench when one of the main players is injured doesnt count. i think hes only had 5 caps- most being in 99. so i guess 5.8 mil on a much younger goal-scoring passionate central midfielder, who might i add is also capped doent seem so bad.

funny you should mention joeys assault charges, but hey at least barton can behave himself at nightclubs

Teams that want to succeed? The difference between the four clubs you mentioned and the “Toon” is that they have succeeded and have pretty full trophy cabinets whereas your Intertoto cup is probably feeling a bit lonely.

I’m pretty certain that Woodgate’s “worst buy of the 21st century” award was based more on injuries than ability and given that he started 30 league games last season would indicate he’s getting back to full fitness. We spent £7m on an international central defender, you spent £5.8m on a guy who, if justice is done, will spend the next couple of seasons in jail.

Wow! A player named as La Liga’s worst buy of the 21st century signed for a club he had already spent a season with? Southgate must think it truly an honour… as for your geordie statment. Why don’t you go ahead and ask how many Man Utd players are from Manchester? Or what about Chelski players? Arsenal? Liverpool? See most unlike the smoggies, teams that want to succeed have broader scouting areas… wouldn’t be surprised if you lose Yak to Everton.. (but I hope you don’t)

You didn’t “buy” anyone from Boro, you got a lazy, overweight mercenary looking for a big pay day at the end of his career who’ll be lucky to start half of your games this season. You had a chance to sign Woodgate last season and he turned you down to play for his hometown club along with several other born and bred Teessiders. Remind me again how many Geordies actually play for Newcastle.

Stewart Downing is quality though I think Woodgate would be too risky and Taylor/Riggott a bit desperate. Weve had too many players who you could describe as ‘not the best in the world’. I think the old Keegan philosophy of only buying better than what we have already got should be the way forward.

If we were short of strikers - I’d say Yakubu. But we’re not. I wouldn’t mind if we signed Stewart Downing, but he doesn’t want to leave. If Woodgate wasn’t so injury prone - I’d have him too. That is all.

Boro’s squad - Apart from Woodgate none of their players could improve their given position in our squad. Not worth looking at!

“John Walkker” - We are aware Boro had one of their rare finishes above Newcastle last season. We all saw the open top bus parade you lot had to celebrate! Is that 2 finishes above us in 15 years now? Well done!
