Add to those, is Harry Kewell still at Liverpool ? I haven’t read the article all the way through, so excuse me if he gets mentioned. He’s usually been over-played and has under-performed - or been injured - but used to be great years ago and Sam has been excellent in the past at turning player’s careers around even when they’re 30 or so.

Another thing: I can’t believe that a lot of fans.are still so pessimistic (having just read a few posts on blogonthetyne). Okay, we do need defensive reinforcements quickly, of course, but we not only have a better manager now but also a new board -–something fans have been longing for for years. If we can get the players we want without spending much then I’ll personally be very happy that we haven’t spent the kind of megabucks that others currently are. And, in an odd kinda way, we might also have made a new signing in Luque if he can continue his new-found form and confidence,

Generally, I think the main problem in buying from Liverpool is that we would only be able to attract players from them who don't have a chance of making the LFC 1st team.

These players would therefor be no better than what we have now, really.

Hi All

As a Liverpool fan this is an Interesting read.

To be fair lads, you'd be buying a dead horse in Sami Hyypia.
To say he's knackered is an understatement.
While he was never the fastest, those few yards of pace have completely gone.
He's still a legend and will do well as back up for a tea,.
He would not be quick enough for a complete season.

Riise is not going anywhere, every summer this crops up, but he's loved by the fans and is a dedicated player.
There is no way we can let him go.

And one last call ..

As for For Voronin ....watch this space !!

"Arbeloa simply not good enough"

He made his debut out of position at left back, away to Barcelona in the Champs league 2nd phase at the Nou Camp, and had to mark Lionel Messi. He marked him out of the game.

To prove it was no fluke, he did it again at Anfield in the 2nd leg for good measure.

The guy maybe not a household name or even a fashionable player, but he's yet to have a stinker for Liverpool.

For £2m, more bargains like that please Rafa

Jay, as a fellow Liverpool supporter, I'm sorry to have to point this out, but you were a trifle quick off the mark: the writer has noted that we've won 13 titles SINCE 1960, not overall.

Apart from that, not a bad article, but I share LFC05's views, most notably over Pennant and Voronin.

I want Riise...overpay for him if you have to...I want and we NEEEED Riise. Peter Crouch is a fine player in the Prem...but we do not need him currently. We have NO left back. Unless you count the 60 percent or the time injured Babayaro.

Hello mate. There's a mistake in your honours roll for Liverpool. We've actually won 18 league titles, not 13.

Best of luck for next season, by the way.

LFC won't sell to other Premiership teams? Yer 'aving a larf! What about Bellamy to West Ham? And Kirkland to Wigan? They're not exactly "rivals", but....

Anyway, I've got a soft spot for Newcastle and wish you all the best for the coming season (except when you play LFC, of course!). But I think you're dreaming if you think that Rafa will sell Hyypia or Riise and especially not Crouch to you. They are all still a big part of his plans.

You shouldn't be too hasty to dismiss Voronin and Torres, though. And to compare the two Fernando's ... well, they're as different as chalk and cheese! The new boys will do very well this season, you'll see.

hyypia and riise would both be great signings, both also seem realistic with the emergence of daniel agger and the persistent chase of gabriel heinze, but a player that i have admired for a while is PETER CROUCH. big pete seems to have been pushed down the pecking order since the arrival of torres, and the good form of voronin and i think pete, although his technique is far from textbook, has shown time after time that he can get goals week in week out, against any opposition, and i feel he is exactly the type of striker we need a newcastle- although defenders still remain our main priority
