I've only been to 4 away games and the noise by us Newcastle fans was absolutely incredible- we were even singing "easy easy" to Fulham when we were 2 nil down and Martins equalised in the 93rd minute!! But on the game, was Babayaro left out for injury reasons or because of the fact that he is absolute shite?

i totaly agree stu, but alot of toon fans would disagree with fact SJP is extremly quiet these days, which is shame coz were certinly not loudest ground anymore no matter what sky tells you.

Good result against Celtic, confidence booster but i would be expecting to beat them, to finish within at least top 8 of league.

I am unbiased being a newcastle and celtic fan. I was up in the celtic end and noise was amazing. Shame toon fans are not the same. Albeit a friendly the bhoys were singing even at 3-0. As for the game celtic were dire and even still managed to score. Full backs needed now for newcastle. Celtic got hammered in pre-season last season and won the league and cup easily also got in the last 16 of the champions league. So they are not a mickey mouse team by anyone's standards. So let's get a few lads in defence and start getting some noise back into SJP because it was like a church amongst toon fans!!!!

Good report.
Don't understand the comment about Geremi doing well in an unfamiliar role given that he is a central midfielder!
Thought the marks were generally fair although I thought Steven Carr had as good a game as anyone with the exception of the guys you gave 8 to all of which I agree with.
Can't understand some of the comments about the defence. Given that we played with at least 8 different players there in the 90 minutes, some of whom were playing alongside each other for the first time and some of them playing out of their usual position (Huntington and Zog), I think they did exceptionally well for what was only the 2nd friendly of the pre-season. Yes they were breached a couple of times but each times were recovered by some good tackles.

I see Anal Oliver is up to it again in todays Ronnie Gill he expects three more players to be here this time next week or will this be wide of the mark.

On last nights evidence we need another 6 at least to add depth.......please no more matty pattinson.

Thought Geremi looked a class act in midfield and provided something different to the constant spins and turns of Scott Parker. High hopes for him this season. Rozenhal also looked quality - tall, composed, read the game well, and the defence fell apart when he went off. Really impressed.

Carr still crap, Nobby had a good game, good to see Luque score and hopefully boost his confidence...there's a £9.5m player in there somewhere. Pattison not good enough.

Major thing I took from the game though was the unbelievable lack of strength in depth in the whole squad, but especially defence. We could also do with another central midfielder to cover our injuries and the fact that the King Of Bling is seemingly heading off. Not that I'll mourn his departure though!

What tonight has proved is that we are desperately short on numbers. Harper coming on up front is funny but also a shining example of what needs to be done.
Hopefully Ashley et al will see this and take appropriate action asap.

Comprehensive report but some very generous ratings in some places!

Really pleased with how we played tonight, especially going forward. Geremi looks like a playmaker.

We were clumsy and uncalculated at the back though. We lost all calm and collection altogether when Rozehnal departed; but even before then, the positional sense from the defense was practically non-existant.

This is a good start, but a team with aims for Europe should be beating SPL teams by this score. Celtic are good, but not that good.

Can't complain, but a clean sheet would be nice next time.
