I'm a big fan of Martins although I'm not short sighted enough to see he has weaknesses in his game, fans seem to be getting on his back because of the poor finish to the season but the majority of the players are just as guilty. I think it was after the AZ game that the players lost faith in Roeder and all of the first team players squad suffered after that. I think Martins was a good buy in the situation we were in, but now we're looking to move forward, and with more options at Allardyce's disposal, he'll struggle to hold down a place. Any attempt to play Owen, Viduka and Martins together will only have a limited success at best. I also think there's a limit to how much we can expect him to improve. As a good athlete, he has qualities of strength and pace, but his skill on the ball and his reading of the game are poor IMO. I enjoyed the article.
