Great article, I really had fun reading it. Yes, it’s definitely much more important to inspire awe, not sympathy, when it comes to fans of other football clubs and public in general.

Although I don’t agree with everything you say, you do make a lot of sense. I’m not sure about Allardyce but we’ve got to give him a chance like everyone else we’ve had since the Messiah (although i wish we hadn’t in the case of Dalglish,Gullit & Souness) so whatever Big Sam does we all have to get behind him & the team. As GEORDIES we KNOW we are a different race on a much higher level than these soft southern shandy drinkers so why the hell should we give a toss what the bast**ds think. No matter how fantastic or how shite our beloved black’n'whites play, whether we score 200 goals in a season or break the record low of 26 (who holds that again ha! ha!) 52,000 arses will be sitting on 52,000 seats because in our sheer blind adoration come hell or high water we will always BELIEVE! A saying I’m fond of is this this “IF YOU LOOK ACROSS THE TYNE FROM GATESHEAD YOU CAN SEE THREE CATHEDRALS :- St NICK’S FOR THE PROTESTANTS, St MARY’S FOR THE CATHOLICS & St JAMES’ FOR THE REST OF US!

Brilliant article! You are so right in what you say. I am into my 45th year of watching Newcastle at home and abroad. During that time the media have always had it in for us. We need to show the rest of the country and these new “corporate style supporters” of other clubs just who we are and what we are made of. These people would have sh.t themselves in the old St. James’, it was so intimidating. We have a huge ground with a huge support. Lets make it intimidating for both away teams and fans alike. This is a great opportunity to show what the club and the team mean to us. Lets get behind Allardyce and his team from the off, and re-create an atmosphere that will really intimidate. As for Shepherd,the club will survive his reign, and still be around long after he meets his demise.
LETS BE UNITED AS ONE! HOWAY THE LADS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Y’know something? I actually take a twisted pleasure in the back-biting and name-calling we get these days. Idiots like our two Southern friends below sneering at us. Idiots with nothing better to do incidentally than read message boards for a club they don’t even follow (what’s up lads? www.granniesinleather.com packed up again has it? Or has Uncle Abramovic not bought you a new player in the last 5 minutes Bluetoof? I’m assuming your Chelski? Tosser…) You see, it’s all good in my book. You want to know why? No? Well, Ill tell you anyway.

To me, it’s all just fuel to the fire. All just another reason to give a toss. I think we need to develop something of an “us against the World” mentality. A bit of grit. To paraphrase Ben Kingsley in Sexy Beast, we have to “love the F***off-ness of it all”. Man Utd fans have to have it (albeit with an arrogance that stinks) because nobody outside their souless glory-hunting sold-our-souls-to-the-devil World (ie. Milton Keynes mainly) can abide them, Arsenal fans used to have it until they bought a bunch of pretty boys (remember 1-0 to the Arsenal under George Graham?), hell even Millwall had it to some level.

So….”Nobody likes us and we don’t care”?? Maybe not quite yet, but I’m fed up of people talking about “Entertainers”. It’s been years since we were, and even when we played nice football, we won nothing. NOTHING. Let’s start winning football matches again, and let’s all start sticking two fingers up at the World of faux-Chelski fans,”Milton Keynes Reds” and any other team who wouldn’t know loyality if it bit em on the arse….
