In The Know: Rumour Review - 19th May
By Kasper Hakunti On Sat 19 May 2007 |
So the inevitable transfer rumour circus is already well on its way and in this section we’ll bring you all the hottest gossip from our more or less knowledgeable reporters.
The biggest papers in the country wasted no time after Newcastle decided to end Roeder’s reign and hire Allardyce as the new black & white messiah. Infact they already let us know who the new man was looking to bring in before there even was a new man. Saying that I’m sure you won’t be suprised to hear that one of the biggest targets of the summer was already lost before he was even made a target. That man was obviously Middlesbrough’s star defender Abel Xavier. The hormone hungry portuguese was quick to turn down a proposed move to Newcastle and decided to follow Sir David Beckham to Los Angeles Galaxy.
Hardly supringing is the fact that everyone in the Bolton squad are being linked to Newcastle. So far atleast Kevin Nolan, Tal Ben Haim, Nicolas Anelka, Nicky Hunt and old Toon star Gary Speed have been linked with a possible move in various papers. I’m sure most of you have by now realised that papers don’t always know the truth but I can assure you we do. The trustworthy word from our man on the street says that Sam is indeed very interested in bringing Anelka & Nolan to St James’ Park. Just watch this space. Actually, stare at it for a while and let it sink in.
This same source also exclusively told me that Mr Allardyce is looking to sign Laryea Kingston, a Ghanaian international who currently works his magic on loan at Hearts. Kingston is described as a no-nonsense type of aggressive midfielder who plays in the middle or on the left. He could be a player perfectly suited for Allardyce’s long b…winning football. Apparently he has tracked Kingston for well over a year and was very keen on bringing him to Bolton.
The highlight of the past week came yesterday when the whole world was informed by the legend that is Alan Oliver that Chelsea might be interested in KIERON DYER if Lampard decides to join Real Madrid. You might think this is funny but I wouldn’t be suprised if Mourinho the teenage witch was playing a sick joke on Chelsea before dramatically taking over from Ferguson. If Dyer doesn’t fancy joining Chelsea’s blingbling brigade there will be other takers for the England superstar. According to the Guardian Spurs are considering a move for him and it would certanly make sense to break their tight wage structure to sign the flying attacking midfielder who is reportedly on £80k a week when the biggest earner at White Hart Lane is currently Robbie Keane with his £45k a week paycheck.
If you ask Big Freddy there is indeed something behind these rumours. Why else would the chairmen of these clubs not release a statement in the Sun denying it all? On the other hand they don’t ask for their players to ‘have their backsides smacked’ either. Puzzling, I know.
Anelka is a class act he has scored goals where eva he has been also nolan would b a great signing he should b in the england squad i think. Another thing parker has got to stay he shows the fight and spirit that most of the otha players should. i think sam will get the right people in the summer. i would like to see Baines(LB) Distin(CB) Ben Haim(CB) and wes brown (RB or CB) for the defence. In midfield i think we just need a creative centre midfield player sidwell would of been good but hes off to chelsea maybe sam wil bring in sum unknown foreigner for that role. Upfront i think we r ok but maybe a bigger striker with a bit more presence like Anelka, Ashton or Huntelaar would be excellent hes world class

I would rather see some quality players that haven’t achieved much, which I mean by not coming from a big club such as duff from some club, owen from madrid, martins from inter etc. Mainly I feel these players need high wages and I feel they might be less hungry to achieve things and are more likely to be sold on or want out after a few years.
I wouldn’t want us to go out and buy players like zamora, upson etc. I have nothing against these players but I just can’t see them improving and being quality enough for newcastle to move onwards and upwards.

I really don’t think any of our strikers bar Owen are better than Anelka tbh.

First and foremost “Freddie STILL Needs To Go”
Get rid of Babayaro, Carr, Luque, & Shola!
Nobby slips into right back.
Duff & N’Zogbia on the left, Parker, Butt, Emre, Dyer in the middle,(we have to have a least some return for the squillions spent so far on Dyer) Milner on the right
Forwards, with the exception of Shola & Sibi (who we should also get rid of), are world class players, Carroll learning from these players surely can’t be a bad thing!
So…..
We need,
Right back,
2 x Centre backs,
2 x Left backs,
1 x Right Mid,
1 x Forward
All of the above should be of equal or better quality than the current squad…
Who should fill those spaces will, as already mentioned, be decided by our magnificent tabloid collection and rumour mills like this………..
Remember…If a ship is sinking, and nobody to rescue it, the captain always dumps the heaviest and meaningless junk off board!

nolan and davies and benhaim from bolton perhaps, the rest of them can fuck right off! id like to get rid of sibierski, baba, carr but no probs with dyer, nzobia, emre, parker, luque staying. chances are sam will work his magic on them and they will be decnt unlike the previous clown managers weve had. get some unheard of foreign talent in as well sam!!

I can let you in on a little secret gonufc. I doubt we actually considered signing Abel Xavier.
*SHOCKER*

I know that its nolooking likely that Xavier will join newcast thats not my point, the point was that better quality players should be looked at than him. I’m just getting the impression that big sam is only looking at mediocre players that will do for next season only rather than promising youngsters aswell as experience.

gonufc, it says quite clearly that Xavier has joined LA Galaxy. This is all still speculation. I dont think anyone should be getting upset or excited over signings that are blatantly made up by the papers.

Abel Xavier the biggest target of the summer?!?!?!?!?! I bloody hope not!! Please can we not get transformed into a new Bolton, Nolan, fair enough, but Anelka? Why? We have quality strikers already, better ones than him. Where are all the links with quality like Gareth Bale, C. Davies, Giles Barnes etc. I desperately hope that our summer targets are crowned with the signing of bloody Abel Xavier!

Notice how all the players linked with us are from Bolton. Anelka and Nolan, fair enough, but come on. Lets get decent players from other clubs.

I’m hoping for loads of Prima-Donna blokes who care more about their a)wages and b)hairstyles. Any fellas who give a crap about me, fellow Geordies and newcastle United will be considered a bonus.

I wouldn’t mind Sol Campbell on the cheap

Lareya Kingston would be nice.
Good article.
