Injury has hit England’s World Cup hopes yet again, after an MRI scan today confirmed that striker Michael Owen has sustained an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury to his right knee.

For the second game of their World Cup campaign, England were plodding rather than spectacular in their 2-0 win over Trinidad + Tobago. Until Peter Crouch towered at the far post to head England in front, it appeared that an unimaginative showing would only yield an embarrassing one point.

In a typically English hysterical over reaction, the press have decided that, following the one nil victory over Paraguay that our World Cup chances are up in smoke. I’ll just say that again - our one nil victory. From the reaction of the super pundits you would have thought the South Americans had given us a sound beating.

In the same way that our footballers need a rest during the summer so that they can return invigorated for the next season, you have been fortunate enough to have a break from me, and hopefully you feel the better for it.
